Coromandel

The Coromandel Peninsula lies in the North Island of New Zealand. It is part of the Waikato region of New Zealand and extends 85 kilometres north from the western end of the Bay of Plenty, forming a natural barrier to protect the Hauraki Gulf and the Firth of Thames in the west from the Pacific Ocean to the east.

At its broadest point, it is 40 kilometres wide. Almost the entire population lies on the narrow strips along the Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Plenty coasts.

Leave Language school 9.am. Drive through farm lands to Thames along the coast road to Coromandel township. Have lunch in Coromandel Township, relax enjoy shopping for arts and crafts or just look. Walk the easy track through native bush to see the majestic large Kauri tree in the Coromandel forest. Travel to Whitianga beach. Stay in beach front Accommodation in Whitianga.
Enjoy an evening meal at a local café/bar or cook for yourself.
On Sunday visit HOT WATER BEACH, dig yourself a hole in the sand to sit in, watch it fill up with hot spring water from volcanic activity from underground). Tide depending. Walk to CATHEDRAL COVE see spectacular scenery at the Cathedral Cove lookout of Te Whanganui a Hei Marine Reserve, then travel to Hahei beach and Cook's Beach. Return to Auckland approx 7 & 8.00pm
